Owned by Hyundai Glovis Co., the logistics unit of South Korea’s Hyundai Motor Group, the 174,000cbm class dual-fuel LNG Carrier ‘Woodside Scarlet Ibis’ was officially named at HD Hyundai Samho’s shipyard in South Korea recently with newbuild supervision undertaken by Tritec Marine, a Northern Marine Group company.
Named after the national bird of Trinidad and Tobago, Scarlet Ibis, the LNG Carrier is now under the management of Northern Marine Management.
Hyundai Glovis and Woodside Energy agreed a 10-year charter deal for the LNG Carrier in 2022.
As well as onsite supervision at the yard led by Nino Prpa, Project Manager, Tritec Marine, project support was also provided by Tritec Marine’s engineering team in Glasgow, United Kingdom.
Nino said: “At Tritec Marine we are very proud of playing a key role in this LNG transportation project development between Woodside Energy and Hyundai Glovis.
“Having been trusted by Hyundai Glovis to oversee their vessel’s construction, and given we are currently overseeing newbuild supervision projects in South Korea for other clients, we have further strengthened our position in the country’s shipbuilding market.
“We are very pleased to hand over the vessel to sister company Northern Marine Management who will now operate the vessel on the owner’s behalf.
“Many thanks to everyone who has assisted in the creation of this magnificent vessel.”
George Mermiris, General Manager and Director, Tritec Marine, added: “It is a great pleasure to see all the hard work of the team come to fruition as the Woodside Scarlett Ibis is delivered within budget and well ahead of schedule.
“At Tritec Marine we have a long history in supporting leading energy and shipping companies with newbuild and vessel modification requirements.
“As our recent track record shows, we are ideally placed to offer a premium service to parties who are entering or expanding their activity in the Gas sector.
“With our parent Northern Marine Group behind us, we offer wide-ranging, marine engineering and ship management LNG solutions that provide operational and commercial advantage with increased safety.”
